Student Dress Requirements

The dress and grooming of Supai’s students contributes to the health and safety of the individual, promotes a positive educational environment and does not disrupt the educational activities and processes of the school. The following dress guidelines should be followed at all times:

  • Shoes must be worn at all times that are appropriate for school activities.  Beach flip-flops, thong sandals, bedroom slippers or any shoe of the like are not appropriate for school. If sandals are worn they should have a back strap. We STRONGLY encourage closed shoes.
  • Shirts with logos or words that promote alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gangs, violence, bigotry, and/or have sexual connotations are not permitted.  Additionally shirts with any wording that provoke or may tend to provoke violence or disruptions are not allowed.
  • Clothing that exposes the midsection or underclothing is not appropriate.
  • Shorts and skirts must be worn at a modest length that is deemed appropriate by the school staff for the educational environment.
  • Straps on shirts must be at least three adult fingers or 2 inches in width. No spaghetti straps are allowed.
  • No extreme body piercing and accessories deemed dangerous and / or disruptive.  This would include display of tongue, belly, lip or brow piercing.
  •  Tattoos that promote alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gangs, violence (death, blood, gore, suicide, etc.), bigotry, or sexual innuendo are not permitted.  Tattoos that do not follow these guidelines should be covered at all times.
  • Articles of clothing, jewelry/accessories that pose a threat to the safety of the students are not permitted.  Spiked jewelry, chains, spiked belts and other accessories are not allowed
  • Sleep attire, including pajamas, slippers and similar items are not appropriate for school and will not be permitted.
  • See through clothing or clothing that exposes the undergarments and/or torso area are prohibited.
  • Pants and shorts must be secured at the waist level.  Sagging pants are prohibited.  It is not permitted for students to hold pants in place, they must be held secure with a belt or by appropriate fit at the waist.
  • Gang affiliated clothing is strictly prohibited.
  • Students must wear hats as intended, with bills forward.  Hats may not be worn inside buildings. Students that do not follow the above guidelines will be warned and continued violations will lead to having the hat confiscated.
  • Students may not wear or display do-rags headbands, or headscarves.
  • Sunglasses are to be worn outside for sun protection only.  Students are not permitted to wear sunglasses inside classrooms. 
  • Hair may only be of naturally occurring color.

All clothing must be worn as intended.  If students come dressed inappropriately they will be asked to change.  Parents may be called to bring clothes or take the student home to change. Repeated dress code violations will result in disciplinary action.
